Lazlo's Corner

I few weeks back I posted a poem here that ended with a Chumbawamba sample from their massive hit, "Tubthumping".

A few people commented something to the effect of being Chumbawamba'ed, like being Rick Roll'd, and I laughed, but pointed out to people that much like Rick Astley has more than one great song, so too do Chumbawamba, though it is amazing how many people only know the one song by the latter.

When "Tubthumping" became the breakaway hit of 1997, the band had been around 15 years.

Similar to the Grateful Dead, who over 20 years into their career had a massive hit with "Touch Of Grey", their only top 40 hit, it broke them open to whole new audience who were unfamiliar with them and only knew their one hit (several of my friends at the time thought Grateful Dead were a death metal band LOL!)

Anyway, the point I want to get at, be it Chumbawamba, Grateful Dead, or any artist, check out more than one song by them. You may be surprised to find out nothing else by Chumbawamba sounds like "Tubthumping", in fat I highly recommend checking out their 1994 live album, "Showbusiness!", which may be difficult to track down on CD (it was only available with a second disc of Noam Chomsky speeches... which I've never listened to), but is on the streaming services.

There are plenty of well known artists who I am not realy a fan of, but there are songs by them I really enjoy.

They say don't judge a book by it's cover, I say don't judge an artist by one song.
