Lazlo's Corner

If you follow this column, and BlowUpRadio.com, you know that my life has changed a lot in the last few years, which leaves me with less time to do everything I want to with BlowUpRadio.com.

But, the good news is there are others out there talking about the local original music scene in New Jersey.

Let's spotlight a few

New Jersey Stage - https://www.newjerseystage.com Not only is New Jersey Stage the home of BlowUpRadio.com's New & Notable column, but it is also home to Bob Makin's Makin Waves column. The site is all about everything in the local arts scene, and regularly talks about local music.

Bennett Kelly @ New Brunswick Today - https://newbrunswicktoday.com/writers/bennett-kelly
New Brunswick Today is Independent News about the Hub City, and Bennett Kelly is their music journalist. He regularly writes about musicians from the New Brunswick scene, and has also written insightful articles about the history of New Brunswick's music scene. Bennett's year end music review is a must read (https://newbrunswicktoday.com/2023/12/new-brunswick-todays-year-end-music-review)

Songs On Site - https://songsonsite.transistor.fm
I mentioned Songs On Site earlier this year when the podcast started it's now completed 1st season. The podcast, a co-production of Cocotazo Media and You Don't Know Jersey, interviews local musicians at unique locations in New Jersey. The show is hosted by Michael Aquino (a local musician himself), and features performances by the guests. With each episode in the 15-20 minute range, even the most time crunched person (like myself) should be able to find time to listen.

This trio is by no means all inclusive, I know there are others out there. Please feel free to let me know of ones I missed. I would love to be able to make this a regular monthly thing of spotlighting some other sources out there that are talking about New Jersey and #SupportGoodMusic.

Musicians:

BlowUpRadio.com is preparing for our third annual benefit for the National Foundation For Transplants (https://transplants.org) this March.

The NFT saves lives by removing financial barriers that delay or prevent organ transplantation.

There are 2 ways to be involved:

1. Looking for musicians to pre-record a 30 minute live audio performance exclusively for broadcast during the benefit. The performance should be predominantly original songs (1-2 covers is okay), and should not reference being pre-recorded so when it is broadcast people won't hear a bunch of artists saying they pre-recorded. Pre-recorded sets will be due by February 16th.

2. I am looking for previously unreleased original songs (which can include acoustic or live versions of previously released songs, remixes, etc.) for this year's compilation. I ask that all songs be original (no covers) and that they remain exclusive to the compilation until June 1st, 2024 (3 months from the webathon). The songs will be due by February 16th, but if you have something ready, please feel free to send it now.

If you are interested, or have questions, please let me know.
