Lazlo's Corner

As we head into the holidays and the "giving season", BlowUpRadio.com is preparing for our third annual benefit for the National Foundation For Transplants (the NFT that has value): https://transplants.org.

The webathon, which I will be working on with musician Catherine Wacha, will take place the weekend of March 2nd & 3rd, 2024.

The NFT saves lives by removing financial barriers that delay or prevent organ transplantation. One of the many people they have helped is Catherine Wacha, who received a kidney transplant, that was necessary due to having Lupus.

Like our other webathon, the plan is to do a compilation of previously unreleased original songs, and a webathon where musicians pre-record live sets to broadcast during the webathon.

There are 2 ways to be involved:

1. Looking for musicians to pre-record a 30 minute live audio performance exclusively for broadcast during the benefit. The performance should be predominantly original songs (1-2 covers is okay), and should not reference being pre-recorded so when it is broadcast people won't hear a bunch of artists saying they pre-recorded.

Pre-recorded sets will be due by February 16th.

2. I am looking for previously unreleased original songs (which can include acoustic or live versions of previously released songs, remixes, etc.) for this year's compilation. I ask that all songs be original (no covers) and that they remain exclusive to the compilation until June 1st, 2024 (3 months from the webathon). The songs will be due by February 16th, but if you have something ready, please feel free to send it now. Otherwise, if you think you can have something for the compilation, please let me know.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I am happy to answer them, especially since I know I am cramming a lot of info into this e-mail.

Also feel free to forward this to any musicians you know who may be interested.

Here is a little word from Catherine Wacha:

"I can tell your from first hand experience that managing a chronic illness is a stressful endeavor both mentally and financially. After 20 years of battling Lupus and the Chronic Kidney Disease, I found myself in need of a kidney transplant. All things considered, I was in decent physical shape for a transplant and, though exhausted all the time, I worked full time as long as possible to try to save as much as I could. Yes, I had health insurance but a transplant surgery costs $250,000-$300,000 if everything goes well. So not only was I incredibly stressed about needing a rather extreme treatment but I had no idea exactly how much I was going to owe but did know I'd be out of work without pay for at least 3 months. The National Foundation For Transplants helped ease the burden for me, I was lucky and had many people donate directly to my campaign but many people don't know enough people with the means to help and fall short of their goal.

When Lazlo asked if I wanted to work on a benefit with him in the spring I thought this would be the perfect time to be able to once again give back and help some of the people who may not otherwise reach their needed goal. If you have the time and can play and/or donate a song it can really help someone who otherwise may find themselves strapped for money or worse turned away for a needed treatment.

The benefit we did in 2022 & 2023 were huge successes and the folks at National Foundation for Transplants were incredibly grateful for not only the money we raised but the awareness we all brought to the organization. It is an honor to be able to help them out again. "

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope to hear from you.
