I see a lot of people (and by people I mean directors) talking about what is and isn't "real cinema", and the bias in that statement is really frustrating.
You don't like superhero films, that's cool. Don't watch them.
The world is a fucked up place, I can completely understand why people might want to escape by watching a superhero defeat a villain.
But more importantly, it is pretentious to have your opinion of what is "real" define it for everyone.
The same holds true with music.
I have had people tell me that the music I play isn't "real music" because the overwhelming majority of what I play are local artists.
Some people have a bias that doesn't value local artists as much as touring artists and major label artists. That is a large part of why I started BlowUpRadio.com nearly 23 years ago... but I am well aware that this station has only changed the minds of a few people who think that way. But I'll take it. Small victories are still victories.
There is a lot of music I don't like (and cinema for that matter), but I would never refer to what I like as "real" and denigrate what I dislike as not being legitimate. All music (and film) has value to someone, and therefore is "real" to them.
So to those who want to define what is "real", put that energy towards something more productive, like promoting the stuff you like, without putting down the stuff you don't.
