Lazlo's Corner

Next week I hope to be able to give you all the information on this October's Banding Together Benefit Webathon for the Spondylitis Association of America, but this week I want to tell you about 2 other benefit compilations. Please support these good causes.

The Light Between: Songs of Hope and Mercy

This benefit compilation features 22 songs, some by New Jersey artists including the organizer of the compilation Dw Dunphy. All proceeds from the collection will benefit St. Jude's Children's Hospital. A leading children's hospital, St. Jude treats the toughest childhood cancers and pediatric diseases, and families never receive a bill from St. Jude's for treatment, travel, housing or food.

Dw Dunphy will be my guest on Stay Home With Lazlo on Thursday September 8th to discuss this benefit album.

Then there is the compilation announced during Thursday's Stay Home With Lazlo where my guest was Sean Faust, that comes out on Friday.

Yes, I announced I am seeing on it (that to Pat Veil doing everything else to make the song happen).

No, I am not a singer.

Yes, this is the first time my singing has been released.

No, I don't expect to do more singing anytime soon (unless there is some strange demand for it). I recorded this because I wanted to help Sean Faust, and when you hear the song in question, you'll hear that I was able to be silly and have fun with it, which is my wheelhouse.

The EP is called Don't Get Up, Relax (Covering Sean Faust songs), and here is the press release for it:

In April local New Jersey musician Sean Faust was interviewed by Lazlo of BlowUpRadio.com and talked about needing to find a way to raise money to help with his mental health expenses. Lazlo suggested people cover his songs for a benefit compilation.

The culmination of that suggestion, "Don't Get Up, Relax", will be released on Sean Faust's Bandcamp page (seanfaust.bandcamp.com) on Friday September 2nd.

Each of the the three songs on the compilation are unique covers of Sean Faust's songs

The Fisherman & The Sea (Helsinki, Finland) - Settle In

The Maravines (NJ) - As It Grows (Part 2: Without A Name)

Lazlo featuring Pat Veil (NJ) - Boba Fett

"All three tracks are proof that there are amazing people in the world that are willing to put their time and effort into covering my songs to help," says Sean Faust, "I'm blown away that Lazlo, who is a radio DJ, not a singer, would choose to record vocals on a song for the first time just to bring extra attention to my cause!"

You can pre-order "Don't Get Up, Relax" now at seanfaust.bandcamp.com/album/dont-get-up-relax

"Treatment for mental health is not always the most affordable, but when one needs help one needs to ask for help sometimes. Trauma and mental health are no joke and although I am currently in treatment I do have to ask for help from my community to help me to be able to afford it. I thank everybody who has ever listened, performed, or just spoken with me. Your love and help are huge to me and will always be appreciated!"

Finally, you may have heard me mention this one several times on the air, as well as on our Twitter account (@BlowUpRadio). New Jersey label Kool Kat Musik has put out POP AID - A Power Pop Compilation to Benefit the Citizens of Ukraine, an incredible 63-track collection of previously unreleased Power Pop Songs from artists from around the globe. 100% of all profits from sales of the collection will go to support World Central Kitchen's work in war-torn Ukraine.

Note: Track 4 features Ken Stringfellow, who has multiple allegations of sexual misconduct (https://kuow.org/stories/as-sexual-misconduct-allegations-dog-ken-stringfellow-of-the-posies-the-band-breaks-up). The organizers of the album did not know of the allegations, & all money is for charity. Ken isn't making money from this, so let that turn you off from helping a good cause and getting some great music.

Oh, and don't forget you can still get Rock Against Hate Volume 4. Forty-two previously unreleased songs, with all money going to Planned Parenthood.
