Lazlo's Corner

I tweeted this the other day, but it bears repeating here for those that don't follow me on Twitter (@BlowUpRadio)

If you don't support good music, good musicians give up. Don't kill good musicians' dreams

I've watched so many amazing musicians over the years decide it is time to stop being a musician. Now often there are other contributing factors, but one thing I hear over and over again is that they tire of putting out albums no one hears, playing shows that no one goes to.

The whole reason I started BlowUpRadio.com back in 2000 was to try to build up the scene, find an audience for all this good music that is going unheard by the masses.

Now you can say BlowUpRadio.com is a failure (in my darker moments, I do), after all there is still so much amazing local music not being purchased, and shows that are sparsely attended, but in small ways we've made a difference.

When I get e-mails, or people coming up in public, thanking me for introducing them to their new favorite band, I know BlowUpRadio.com has done some good.

When musicians meet each other at a BlowUpRadio.com show and become friends, putting their own shows together, and in some cases, forming bands, I know BlowUpRadio.com has helped the scene come together.

When scores of musicians jump at the opportunity to help with whatever non-profit organization I am trying to raise money for (Spondylitis Association Of America, Planned Parenthood, The Trevor Project, among many others), I know we have all worked together to not only help the music scene, but a cause much bigger than all of us.

My point to all this rambling is that we may not think we can change things in big ways, because most of us cannot...

But, if instead of doing nothing, we each do what we can to support the local music scene (and on a larger scale, the world), each person's little bit combined can really make big changes.
