Lazlo’s Corner

It's hard to believe, but (as mentioned above) BlowUpRadio.com has been around nearly 15 years.

When I started the webcast and site, it was because of several factors:

I loved going to see local indie bands but my friends had little interest in going to see bands they had never heard of.

The radio station I had been DJing part time at had no interest in playing local music, despite the fact that there were many amazing local bands that would have fit the format, and we were getting requests for.

On a listserv I had been a part of, someone mentioned Live365 hosts internet radio stations (at the time for free...though it has cost me a decent amount of money for more than 10 years).

I decided to give it a shot and set up BlowUpRadio.com as a creative outlet where I controlled the music I played (unlike that commercial radio station I worked for which was strictly formatted as to what songs to play in what order). My hope was to get my friends to listen and then come with me to se these bands live. Most of my friends at the time did not listen, and never came with me to shows.

but all was not lost...I reached out to a few local bands I knew and/or liked, and asked for some of their music to play, and not only did they send music, they helped promote my little station to their fan base.

I also spoke to Al Muzer, who at the time wrote the local music column for the Aquarian, and he gave BlowUpRadio.com and nice write up.

From there things snowballed, and continue to do so today, 15 years later.

I can't thank you guys enough for being part of this ride. This is one of the most meaningful things I've done in my life, and I can't imagine my life without BlowUpRadio.com

Thanks,
Lazlo
