Lazlo’s Corner

It has been five years since JAMES HUNTER’s last album, but if the long period of time between albums is what it takes to put out an album as much fun as “MINUTE BY MINUTE” (coming out 2/26 under the band name of THE JAMES HUNTER SIX), then I’m cool with it. I can’t think of anyone doing a better job today of the classic rhythm & blues soul sound. You can download the title track for free at their website, and hear for yourself while they are at the top of their game.

STOLEN BABIES new album, “NAUGHT”, is a very interesting album indeed. Currently touring with World/Inferno Friendship Society and Rasputina, Stolen babies has influences of each band, without sounding like either. I see them often referred to as “avant-gard”, but I feel a more apt description would be a female fronted punk/metal band with a gothic vaudevillian vibe. Descriptions mean nothing if the music isn’t good. Thankfully Stolen Babies album is pretty awesome, though there are one or two songs where some of the lyrics are growled into an unintelligible mess more than sung, which is not really my cup of tea. Otherwise, a very enjoyable album.

CAVEMAN’s self-titled second album doesn’t come out until April, but I just finished listening to it and their synth, harmonious, dream-pop sound. It manages to be both enticing and relaxing, and absolutely wonderful. Check out the first single from the upcoming album, “in the city”, here: https://soundcloud.com/#cavemanband/caveman-in-the-city

THE SUCCESSFUL FAILURES put out a new single last week for “pay what you want”. The song, “SEA FLOWERS”, is the most entertaining piece of power pop rock I have heard so far this year! Go, now, give it a listen and download for yourself!
