Lazlo’s Corner

I am so busy with the webathon, but I wanted to get some brief blurbs up about some really good tunes.

It is difficult to make a good patriotic song that doesn't come off, cheesy, partisan to one political party or another, or is just plain poorly written, but New Jersey's own JOE FERRERI manages to do so with his John Mellencamp-esque song, “LET FREEDOM RING". Being the anniversary of 9/11, it is the perfect time to remember the men & women who serve our country, and that is what Joe's song is all about.

What is the secret to capturing one of the best damn live shows I've seen in recent years on a studio I release? I don't know, but clearly LARRY AND HIS FLASK do. Their album last year, "all that we know", brought all the energy and life of their live show to the forefront, and their new EP, "HOBO'S LAMENT EP", matches that energy while upping the ante on how good their music can be. These bluegrass, punkabillies rock, and managed to not only lift my spirits after a long day, but reinvigorate me.

I don't think there is any other band on the scene right now that does 80's synth-dance-rock better than BLAQK AUDIO, and that includes the bands that are still around from the 80's. Their new album, "BRIGHT BLACK HEAVEN", is retro cool without feeling dated, but what else would you expect from the Davey Havok and Jade Puget of AFI?

BLUE FOOD’s new album, “ENGINES”, is funk rock at its finest! This album may very well cause a spontaneous party to erupt. Put this on, get up on your feet, and enjoy!

BILL ORTIZ (trumpeter in Santana’s band) just released a fascinating new album, “HIGHEST WISH”, which combines smooth R&B, jazz, and hip-hop. The combination works amazingly well, and shows that in the shadows of a well known artist (Santana), often lies other great artists.
