This week is going to be a big week on Lazlo’s Den.

Tonight (Monday) in honor of Martin Luther King day, we’ll be broadcasting his famous, “I have a dream” speech.

Tuesday night we’ll be celebrating our new President, Barack Obama, with the Lazlo’s Den’s Inaugural Ball.

Wednesday night it is a huge honor for me to have Dave Wakeling of The English Beat (and General Public). I pre-recorded this interview a few days ago, and it was a blast talking to Dave about all sorts of things for nearly a full hour. This interview is not to be missed.

The English Beat will be doing 3 shows in the area next month, 2/3 @ World Café Live, 2/6 @ Irving Plaza, and 2/7 @ The Stone Pony.

Now it’s time for this week’s Pissed Off!

Martin Luther King Day is today and Barack Obama will be inaugurated as President tomorrow. I am actually in a cautiously optimistic state of mind.

I have always felt that voting is important, and I have voted in every presidential election, but Barack Obama is the first candidate that actually made me think that he actually could make a difference and not just be a typical politician.

A little over four years ago when he spoke at the Democratic National Convention, I knew he would be our first black president. But even I am (happily) surprised at how quickly Obama has risen to become our president. I think it says a lot not only for Obama, and his ideas for change, but for the American people and their embracement of change.

Look, I know things cannot change overnight, nor will we likely see our involvement in Iraq or our economic crisis come to an end (or possibly change much) in his first year in office, but to see people rally behind Obama the way they have does give me hope.

A recent CNN poll showed 6 in 10 REPUBLICANS have a positive view of Obama (http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/01/18/obama.sunday/index.html), and most Americans look at Obama as a chance to unify America (after all, it was Obama who gave the famous speech saying there were no red states and blue states, only the United States).

So for once, I want to put my cynicism aside and truly hope that change is possible.

Congratulations President Obama. Please don’t let America down.

That's all for this week folks.

Peace,
Lazlo
