Supporting New Jersey's Local Music Scene Since 2000

Album of the Month
The Milwaukees - "American Anthem Vol. 1"

With, "American Anthems vol. 1", The Milwaukees have crafted an album that to me is really a perfect interweaving of two different albums. The first two songs on the CD are fist pumping, air guitar playing, sing along, rock songs. then the album takes a sharp turn, without being jarring to the listener, into a more Roots Rock/Americana/Alt-Country ballad for the next two tracks. As strong as their rock songs are, and they really are fun, the real emotional connection for the album comes through in these powerful, soulful ballads. The album continues to perfectly ping pong between rock songs and Americana ballads, leaving me wanting more when the nearly 41 minute run time of the CD ended.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Message From Lazlo

Hi Everyone,

First off, in my rush to write last week's newsletter I forgot to thank all the people that worked so hard behind the scene to make the Spondylitis Association of America benefit happen. In addition to all the musicians who donated their time, all the labels, PR firms, bands and others who donated stuff to the raffle, and my wife who ran the raffle, I also want to belatedly thank everyone at Buddie's Tavern, especially Karen, who went out of her way to help make this benefit happen, Mike Grau, Ox, and Tony the Kid, who all ran sound at various times, and helped make things run smoothly.

For those who missed the benefit, or want to relive it, both Jim Testa and Phil Rainone posted reviews and pictures, here, here, and here.

Once again, if you would like to donate to the Spondylitis Association of America, you can do so, directly on their site, here.

The nominees have been announced for this year's ASBURY MUSIC AWARDS. I am proud to say that BlowUpRadio.com has been nominated for TOP RADIO/INTERNET STATION, and TOP MUSIC WEBSITE TO SUPPORT LIVE ORIGINAL MUSIC. In addition, I have been nominated for TOP RADIO PERSONALITY. While I know a lot of people have problems with these awards and who is nominated and who isn't, but let's remember that we all have different opinions, but this event should be about bringing the local music scene together, not tearing it apart bad mouthing one another. I am honored to be nominated, and amongst so many of my friends and peers. I look forward to being at the Asbury Music Awards on Nov. 17th, and hopefully being around a supportive music community happy for those who win, whoever they are, and not there to just bitch and complain about who was and was not nominated.

This week on the BlowUpRadio.com Podcast, I actually spend a lot of time discussing some of the negativity that has already been spewed about the Asbury Music Awards. The podcast also features music from Dipsomaniacs, The Heshers, John Raido, Mimi Cross, The Spectacle Experiment, Agency, Jim Testa, Kate Hart, Rik Mercaldi, and Thomas Martin & The Martinis. Enjoy!

So last week I said I was going to have a lot of interviews on Lazlo's Den, and for various reasons, they all fell apart. I'm hoping to maybe have some this week, including possibly one so special that I will really want to bragg about it, but we'll see what happens.

What I can tell you is that I will be at the CMJ Music Marathon this week, so I'll be talking about the shows all the week on Lazlo's Den. Also, keep an eye on LazlosDen.com, because if an interview is going to air on the show, I'll be announcing there.

Some new CD reviews have gone up on BlowUpRadio.com & LazlosDen.com of new CDs from VHS Or Beta, Paul Sanchez, and the Brian Setzer Orchestra.

Peace,
Lazlo
