Happy ACHOO (Another Commercialized Holiday Of Overspending) everyone! Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Festivus, ACHOO, some combination thereof, some other holiday, or nothing at all, may your holiday season be joyous! In the spirit of giving, I have a new download to offer you all. It's the BlowUpRadio.com Session hosted by Jim Testa, where he interviewed John Raido from Boxcar Nancy. The hour long show features an insightful interview as well as some rare music from John Raido and even a live performance of a song he is working on for his new album. ~~~~~~~~~~ On a much sadder note, a piece of the Jersey shore's music history is about to be destroyed forever. The Upstage club, which helped launch the careers of such legendary Jersey Shore artists as Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny, Bill Chinnock, Little Steven, David Sancious, and many more, is set to be demolished to build new condos. The club had long been closed and was in serious disrepair, but I can't help but feel that we are losing another put of our local music scene. You can read the whole story about the last day of the Upstage on Upstage Magazine's website. The photo above is also courtesy of Upstage Magazine. Speaking of the Jersey shore's music scene history, a great primer which includes a chapter on The Upstage Club is Upstage Magazine's publisher Gary Wein's book Beyond The Palace. It's a great book and is highly recommended. Well that's it for this week folks. Thanks, as always, for your support. And enjoy your holiday! Peace, Lazlo |
George Wirth - 'the lights of Brigantine'
Some people seem to make strong connections to my songs and I try to respect that when I'm doing them. Without, I hope, taking myself too seriously in the process. I did my best to pass that feeling on in this CD. This project started out as a way to keep track of some songs and maybe learn a little about the art of recording along the way. It evolved into a collection that, I think, has an unaffected, organic feel to it. I added a bit of harmonica and high-strung second guitar on some tunes but it's still a pretty accurate reflection of what I sound like playing live....
