Hey Everyone, So the holidays are upon us, and we give thanks for what we have, and I want to give thanks to all of you, because it is all of you that makes doing BlowUpRadio.com one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Last week we introduced BlowUpRadio.com on the 'Pod, our new downloadable "podcast", that you can listen to anywhere. The response has been incredible, with almost as many people downloading the show as listen to our webcast. I guess that means you like BlowUpRadio.com on the 'Pod. With that in mind, I am finally ready to announce a new series of specials we will begin airing on our webcast next week that I am extremely excited about and I hope you will be too. In the 5 years that BlowUpRadio.com has been on the air we've had a few shows here and there that were hosted by other people than myself, but there was always one person who I was trying to get onto BlowUpRadio.com that I was never able to. First we were trying to figure out what he could do that would be different from our normal webcast but fit in with what we do, but equally problematic was his busy schedule. Well recently I threw an idea at him and he loved it so much that he freed up time to do the show as a series of specials. The man is Jim Testa, publisher of Jersey Beat magazine for over 20 years, and one of the biggest promoters of the local music scene through his magazine, website, and his blog. Now he can add to that long list host of BlowUpRadio.com Sessions with Jim Testa. Each episode will have Jim sitting down with a local artist or band from NJ for an in depth interview and live performances. The first episode of BlowUpRadio.com Sessions with Jim Testa was taped this past weekend with Jim interviewing the lead singer of Boxcar Nancy, John Raido. I have listened to the show and let me just say that this hour long interview is full of insight and humor, as well as giving you your first chance to hear what John Raido is working on for his next CD. BlowUpRadio.com Sessions with Jim Testa will air all next week on BlowUpRadio.com's webcast, each night at 8pm ET. But I'm not just thankful for finally getting Jim Testa on to BlowUpRadio.com, I have plenty more things to be thankful for. Here's a few of them: This Wednesday's pre-Thanksgiving Folk You! festivities.
I'm also thankful there are people in the world like Tommy Anton and Abby Cahn. In September 19th's newsletter I wrote the following: I want to take a minute to tell you something unbelieveably kind that Tommy Anton & Abby Cahn are doing. This Saturday they are loading up both of their vans with donated supplies, rations and whatever stuff they have (or get donated to them) and driving both vans down to Houston, Texas (where Tommy was born), and giving them to people who have been displaced from their homes by the devastation of hurricane Katrina. Now doing that in and of itself is an extremely kind act, and way above and beyond what anyone could be expected to do, but they are going even further and doing more. Once they distribute all the supplies in both vans, they are going to give away their vans to two families who have lost everything. That type of generosity is so few and far between...the world would be a better place if we all were more like Tommy & Abby. Well Abby recently e-mailed me a short recap of the journey. I have reprinted it here for everyone to read. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Peace, Lazlo |
The Heshers - 'distance equals depth'
The Heshers are a 3-piece band from North NJ. Formed in April 2005, it was originally a side project for Jeff while his primary band, The LawnDarts, took a hiatus. The music and band turned out so well that The Heshers have taken on a life of their own. Combining the best elements of punk rock, Indie-rock, classic rock, metal, and power-pop, The Heshers fuse it all into tuneful and yet heavy songs that stick in your brain...
