Message From Lazlo

Hey Everyone,

Last week I gave you the lowdown on the return of Folk You! on Saturday March 5th to a new location, SICA. Due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, Chris Pierson will not be able to be part of the show anymore (don't worry, we'll get him in for a Folk You! soon). We are very lucky though because we were able to get jpat, who is just back from a tour of China, to fill the vacated slot. So the new line-up for the show now looks like this:

And for those of you in northern NJ, I am proud to announce there will be a second Folk You! show in March, as we return to Hoboken for a show co-sponsored by Jersey Beat at The Goldhawk. Here's all the info:

In between the two Folk You! shows, BlowUpRadio.com is proud to be a part of a really big benefit show for tsunami victims. If you think that the devastation of the tsunami is old news, here's a quote for you:

"What we have to do now is not to forget these people and places when all the cameras are not there." - Former U.S. President Bill Clinton speaking about how important it is that people and governments don't lose interest in donating relief to regions ravaged by last year's deadly tsunami.

That is why a group of us set up a big 12 hour benefit for Saturday March 19th at the Oak Lounge of the Berkeley Carteret Hotel in Asbury Park. Please plan to join us for this very special show which will benefit the Save The Children foundation.

Here is all the info:

This will be an all ages event, and is only $10 (which will go to Save The Children). Please come out for what will be an incredible show, and a chance to help the victims of the tsunami.

Here is just a brief statement on some of the ways Save The Children is helping:

"Save the Children is supplying food, water, medical kits, shelter and other necessities to meet immediate needs of the survivors. Save the Children is also taking the lead on protection of children from exploitation, including launching a major effort to register and reunify separated or orphaned children with families and communities, and to get children back in school settings as quickly as possible. This will be followed by a long-term focus on recovering livelihoods through job skills training and micro loans, repairing or rebuilding infrastructure -- including schools, homes and health centers, and providing emotional support for trauma victims."

Remember, Saturday March 19th, 2pm-2am, at the Berkeley Carteret Hotel's Oak Lounge, 1401 Ocean Ave, Asbury Park, NJ.

Peace,
Lazlo

Thursday night is an insanely good line-up over at the Wreck Room. Yeah, yeah, we all know the Wreck Room would rather spend it's time booking cover bands than original, but on Thursday's they get in some great original bands (or you could look at it as each band is going to cover their own songs). Anyway...(more)

I've got two picks for Friday this week, depending on which part of the state you're in. For you northerners, the ageless psyche-pop Gripweeds are at Maxwells. Following in the tradition of NJ's Smithereens, the Gripweeds play 60's inflected pop with bright ringing guitars and Hollies-like ...(more)

This week's best bets includes back to back nights along the Shore. First up is Thursday night at the Saint in Asbury Park. The headliner is Griffen House (Nettwerk Records) from Ohio, but you'll definitely want to check out Nicole Atkins in 3D! Nicole's a native of Neptune, NJ...(more)

Emo...it's become something of a dirty word, hasn't it? You could argue that the Hot Topic culture and the lame videos and even lamer dedications that roll across the screen during Dedicate Live on Fuse do a lot to alienate more mature fans, but I'm going to stand up for the genre this week. On Friday, February 25...(more)
