1. MESSAGE FROM LAZLO

Thanks to everyone who came out last night for a wonderful night of local music that we sponsored along with our friends at Artist Amplification. It was truly a fun night seeing everyone out supporting NJ live bands. The highlight for me...well actually it's several highlights under the same theme...was the camaraderie between bands. The three acts that performed, Val Emmich, Nebulous Thoughts and the Crayons, each played with members of the other bands making the whole night almost have the feel of a party or jam session environment.

The real "jam session" happened during the Crayons' set, who usually perform as an acoustic duo, had surprise guest Josh Van Ness (of the band Van Ness) sitting in with them on percussion for most of the set. They also invited Val Emmich to come up and do a cover of a well known NJ artist, Pete Yorn, with a spirited rendition of his hit, "life on a chain". Personally, I was wondering when Val would get around to covering a Pete Yorn song, who he has admitted has been a big influence on his newer material.

Then came the biggest surprise of the night, as the Crayons went electric, bringing up the entire band Nebulous Thoughts (who had already amazed the crowd with their own live performance), to rock out on a song Keith (lead singer of the Crayons) wrote about his fascination with actress Claire Daines (who wouldn't be fascinated with the girl who played Angela Chase and broke Brian Krackow's heart by staying with Jordan Catalano...but I digress). This "electrifying" performance brought a whole new dynamic to their sound, one which they hope to capture on their soon to be recorded follow up album to the acoustic, "236 astor".

In addition to the Crayons recording a new "electric" album, both Val Emmich and Nebulous Thoughts are in the process of recording new albums, which from what I have heard, sound more powerful in their rock sound then their previous albums. This is not to imply that their previous albums aren't good (Val's, "the fifteen minute relationship" and Nebulous' "through the ceiling, through the sky..." are both albums I highly recommend), just more mellow then their new material.

Overall, I just want to thank the bands and Artist Amplification for the wonderful show last night, and I hope that more fans and musicians come to together like last night with the same type of camaraderie. It can only make the scene stronger.
