Hi Everybody! (all those who immediately thought, "Hi Dr. Nick", watch the Simpsons too much ;)
So, the question on many people's minds is what happened to the weekly blowupradio.com Newsletter and why hasn't the webcast been updated in a couple of weeks? Well, the answer is simple. My computer is currently being repaired (and taking longer than anticipated). I am borrowing a computer to write this e-mail. I am sorry that this has affected the site as much as it has, but rest assured that when my computer is repaired I will make it up to you all. In the meantime, I am trying to update the Concert List and News section of the site. Stick with blowupradio.com, there are lots of cool things on the way.
The one cool thing I can tell you right now is that blowupradio.com is co-sponsoring a show with Artist Amplification tomorrow night (July 19th) at the Loop Lounge on Broadway in Passaic Park, NJ. Come down, say hi and hear some great live music from 2 of New Jersey's finest bands:
An amzing singer/songwriter who's album, "...things I can't forget", is a regular in my CD player of late. I remember first hearing his song, "Merry Christmas from the family", on Vin Scelsa's, "Idiot's Delight" show, and instantly envisioning the family and story within the song. That is what Dave does, is weave stories into music that will waift through your head long after the song is over. You can hear the results in susch songs as "ballad of rue lafayette" & "under the lights", heard regularly on blowupradio.com.
These guys with the simple name contacted me several months ago asking me to give their album, "236 Astor", a spin. I agreed. Having no idea what the album would sound like from the band name, I put the CD in my player and hoped for the best. What I heard was a colorful (a-ha! That must be where the name came from) blend of acoustic guitars and sweeping harmonies. Upon repeated listenings the beauty of their lyrics shine through and you realize jusat how talented these guys are. While many of their songs havce melancholy lyrics, the music and harmonies give it a more uplifting sound, as if there is hope to these tales. Perfect examples can be found in their songs, "doorbell" and "Allyson fell off the bike", both played regularly on blowupradio.com.
Sorry, no new songs until my computer is operational again :(
